Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 13, 2026

Yard Sale Hopper ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website yardsalehopper.com and the Yard Sale Hopper web app (together, the "Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain language. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@yardsalehopper.com.

Who we are

Yard Sale Hopper is a small, independently run web app that helps people find local yard sales and plan a driving route between them. We are based in New York and serve users primarily in the United States.

Information we collect

We collect a limited amount of information, and only what we need to run the Service:

Information you give us directly.

  • Email address and ZIP code when you sign up for our email updates or weekend sales digest.
  • Sale details when you post a yard sale: the title, address, date, hours, description, and any tags or photos you choose to add. Note that information you post about a sale is meant to be public and will be shown to other users once approved.
  • Account information if you create an account (your email address, used to sign you in and to let you manage your own listings and saved routes).
  • Messages you send us, such as emails to our contact address.

Information collected automatically.

  • Usage and device data such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit, and how you interact with the Service. This is standard information most websites receive.
  • Approximate location, if you choose to use the "near me" feature, so we can center the map and sort sales by distance. You can decline this in your browser, and the Service still works using a ZIP code instead.
  • Cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel described below.

We do not collect payment information, and we do not ask for sensitive personal information such as government IDs.

How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • show you nearby yard sales and build driving routes between them;
  • let you post sales, create an account, and save routes;
  • send you the email updates or weekend sales digest you signed up for;
  • measure and improve how the Service works; and
  • run and measure advertising (see the advertising section below).

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the Service working, to understand how it is used, and to measure our advertising.

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors find and use the Service so we can improve it. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your IP address, the pages you view, and how you interact with the site, and reports it to us in aggregate. This information is processed by Google. You can learn more in Google's privacy policy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across websites by installing Google's browser opt-out add-on.

Meta Pixel. We also use the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code from Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook and Instagram). The Meta Pixel collects information such as your IP address, the pages you view on our site, and actions you take (for example, signing up for our email list). We use it to measure how well our ads perform and to reach people who may be interested in Yard Sale Hopper. This means some of your activity on our site is shared with Meta and may be combined with information Meta already has. You can learn more, and adjust your ad preferences, in your Facebook or Instagram account settings and at Meta's own privacy policy.

Vercel Web Analytics. We use Vercel's privacy-friendly web analytics, which measures overall traffic without using cookies and without tracking individuals across websites.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we use to operate Yard Sale Hopper, and only as needed:

  • Klaviyo stores our email list and sends our email updates and digest.
  • Google receives website usage data through Google Analytics, as described above, to provide us with aggregate analytics.
  • Meta Platforms receives website activity through the Meta Pixel, as described above, for advertising and measurement.
  • Supabase hosts our database (listings, accounts, saved routes).
  • Mapbox provides the maps, address lookup, and routing.
  • Vercel hosts and serves the website and provides cookieless traffic analytics.

These providers handle data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. We may also share information if required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users or the public.

Your choices and rights

  • Email: every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
  • Location: you can decline location access in your browser and use a ZIP code instead.
  • Cookies and tracking: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as well. You can opt out of Google Analytics specifically using Google's browser opt-out add-on, and you can limit how Meta uses your activity in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings.
  • Your data: you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask us to stop sharing it for advertising. To make a request, email hello@yardsalehopper.com.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email above and we will respond as required by law.

Posting a sale

Sales you post are reviewed before they appear publicly, and the details you include (address, date, hours, description, photos) are shown to other users so they can find and visit the sale. Please do not include private information in a listing that you would not want shown publicly. If you posted a sale and want it removed, email hello@yardsalehopper.com and we will take it down. Sales also drop off the public map automatically once their date has passed.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention and security

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described here, and we take reasonable steps to protect it. No method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.
